In 1985, Kotak Mahindra Finance Ltd. commences bill discounting business after which it entered lease and hire purchase business. In 1995, it entered into a joint venture with Goldman Sachs Group Inc. for investment banking incorporation of Kotak Mahindra Capital Company. In February 2003, Kotak Mahindra Finance Ltd. (KMFL), the Groups flagship company, received a banking licence from the Reserve Bank of India. In 2006, Kotak Mahindra Bank buys out Goldman Sachs equity stake in Kotak Mahindra Capital Company and Kotak Securities Ltd. On 20 November 2014, in an all stock amalgamation, ING Vysya Bank decided to merge with Kotak Mahindra Bank after which on April 1st 2015, the Reserve Bank of India approved the merger. Now the combined entity of both the banks (ING Vysya and Kotak) will bear the name Kotak Mahindra Bank.
